Speech by Adrian Wood, International Managing Director and Joint Founder of GTI

My congratulations to all the winners and nominees of doctorjob's Students' Choice Awards. We now move to the second part of this evening - Malaysia's 100 leading graduate employers Awards 2008.

These awards celebrate excellence in graduate recruitment by recognising the strength of employer brands on campus. The rankings have been determined by almost 15,000 votes of students and graduates studying in Malaysia and around the world. Quite simply the rankings identify the Top 100 employers Malaysian graduates want to work for when they graduate.

The survey was open to students and recent graduates and votes came in from 65 universities in Malaysia, the UK and Australia. I'd like to share a few insights from the survey results.

The top 5 degree disciplines were: engineering (a third of the students), finance related, IT, business and marketing.

Students were asked which factors influenced their choice of employer and at the top of their list was, encouragingly, an organisation with a long-term vision and mission, closely followed by employee growth and development opportunities. The least influential factors were the opportunity to travel and the size of the organisation.

They were also asked about their salary expectations and just under a half said they expected a starting salary of RM 2,000 to RM 2,500 but a quarter expected more.

The numbers voting for Malaysia's most popular graduate employer compares favourably with the Leading 100 Graduate Employer surveys GTI conducts in 22 other countries.

Through Trendence, GTI's employer branding research company, we conduct research with 200,000 students in 22 European countries and in the coming year 4 Asian countries. We have similar awards evenings to tonight in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland. However I have to say that even though the UK awards take place at the Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane in London, the food tonight is the best of all the awards evenings - as you would expect!

GTI has come a long way since I founded the company a little over 20 years ago. With the recent acquisition of Hobsons in Europe, we have become the largest graduate careers media group in the world with offices in Malaysia, Singapore, China, the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and Ireland. I'm particularly pleased and proud that we include many of the world's finest organisations as valued clients and friends.

It's a privilege for GTI to celebrate excellence in graduate recruitment here in Kuala Lumpur amongst colleagues and friends. May I end by wishing you and your organisations every success tonight.
