Speech by Nickie Yew, Regional Director and General Manager for GTI
Datuk-Datuk, Datin-Datin, our esteemed guests, members of the press, ladies and gentlemen.
Since 2002, GTI has been conducting annual surveys among secondary school students to help us gather information on how students perceive their tertiary educational options, and to help us improve our marketing efforts.
The Students' Choice Awards were created this year to acknowledge the strength of educational institutions' brands and marketing efforts among secondary school students in Malaysia. Based on a survey that commenced during The Star Education fair among fair attendees in January 2008, the survey continued till April with students during the many school fairs and visits we made to schools nationwide, together with an online extension at doctorjob.com.my. Altogether, approximately 2,000 students took part in this survey.
After tabulating the results, we were able to determine the 3 educational institutions students perceived to be the leading educational institutions in the country. A complete survey report for 2008 and 2007 is available and will be given to you later in the evening.
I'm sure you'll agree with me that students today are a lucky lot. They have many resources for information at their disposal compared to students a decade ago. From print media to digital advertising, marketing to students, particularly in the area of education, has become increasingly challenging.
