Racing towards real opportunities

Eight finalists will vie for a work opportunity with RHB Bank on 26November 2011 in the Final Sprint of the gradmalaysia race 2011 in partnership with RHB. Each finalist will be subjected to a live public interview with RHB’s senior executives. The Final Sprint will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Kuala Lumpur.

 

The eight finalists were filtered from 20 shortlisted undergraduates, who battled it out in a grueling assessment centre on 12 November to qualify for the Final Sprint.

 

How the race is run

The gradmalaysia race 2011 in partnership with RHB is a unique, innovative and fun platform aimed at preparing students for the world of employment. Couched in a competition format, the gradmalaysia race 2011 has so far seen high-flying candidates competing against each other in the Qualifying Run and Preliminary Heat for internships at RHB, one of Malaysia’s top local banks.

 

Michele Lam, Publishing Director of GTI Media explained, “This initiative is in line with GTI’s mission of helping students make informed and successful decisions about their future. In addition to print and web, such events as this will increase our engagement with students, the future of our country’s workforce, and bring them closer to employers.”

At the Preliminary Heat, contestants were grouped into teams of five and given an hour to critically analyse case studies assigned, testing not only their intelligence but also social aptness. Contestants were placed under intense observation and individually assessed by the panel of judges comprised of the bank’s senior executives and GTI Media editors.

 

Subsequently, each team was allocated 20 minutes to put forward their case analyses professionally. The contestants were placed in the hot seat as they took on challenging questions posed by the panel of judges, and were individually assessed for content and presentation skills.

 

The Preliminary Heat cooled off with contestants being treated to training sessions on submitting winning job applications, interview skills and presenting a professional image in preparation for the final stage.
